What is Kosher Compliance Support?
Kosher dietary law (kashrut) governs what foods are permissible for observant Jewish consumers and how they are produced. Key requirements include: prohibited ingredients (pork, shellfish, non-kosher slaughtered meat), separation of meat (fleishig) and dairy (milchig) products and the equipment used to produce them, prohibition of certain mixing of meat and dairy, requirements around wine and grape products, and the presence of rabbinical supervision during specific production stages. The complexity of Kosher compliance for manufacturers lies in ingredient tracing (all inputs, including processing aids and equipment-cleaning agents, must be Kosher-certified), equipment designation (dedicated or thoroughly cleaned between meat and dairy runs), production scheduling (separate runs, often with equipment kashering between changeovers), and labelling (the Kosher symbol from the supervising agency appears on packaging). Kosher certification is issued by recognised rabbinical agencies such as the Orthodox Union (OU), OK Kosher, KF (Kosher Federation UK), or MK (Montreal Kosher).
