ISO 22000 Certification

ISO 22000 is an internationally recognised standard for Food Safety Management Systems, integrating the principles of HACCP with ISO 9001's management system framework. It provides a complete approach to controlling food safety hazards across the entire food chain.

What is ISO 22000 Certification?

ISO 22000:2018 specifies requirements for a Food Safety Management System (FSMS) applicable to any organisation in the food chain, regardless of size or complexity. It integrates the seven HACCP principles from the Codex Alimentarius with the management system structure of the ISO High-Level Structure (Annex SL) — the same framework used in ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. This means ISO 22000 can be implemented as a standalone food safety system or integrated with existing quality or environmental management systems. Unlike FSSC 22000, ISO 22000 does not have GFSI benchmarking, but it is widely accepted across Asian and South Asian markets, and is specified by many Indian food buyers and regulators.

Who Needs It?

  • Food manufacturers, processors, caterers, and food service operations across the food chain.
  • Indian exporters whose buyers specify ISO 22000 as a supplier qualification requirement.
  • Organisations with an existing ISO 9001 system that want to extend it to cover food safety in a harmonised way.
  • FSSAI-licensed businesses seeking a recognised food safety management framework beyond basic compliance.
  • Agricultural producers, storage and distribution businesses, and catering operations serving regulated sectors.
