IATF 16949 Certification
IATF 16949 is the global quality management system standard for automotive production and relevant service parts organisations. It is mandated by major OEMs including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Hyundai, BMW, Ford, and GM for their Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers. Fusion Certification provides full implementation support covering IATF 16949 and its core tools.
What is IATF 16949 Certification?
IATF 16949:2016 is published by the International Automotive Task Force and replaces the previous TS 16949 standard (the TS 16949 designation is a historical reference only — it is no longer valid for new certifications). IATF 16949 builds on ISO 9001:2015 and adds automotive-sector specific requirements including the five core tools: Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Statistical Process Control (SPC). It also incorporates Customer-Specific Requirements (CSRs) from individual OEMs. Certification is granted only by IATF-sanctioned certification bodies against this standard, with no transition period for new applicants.
Who Needs It?
- Automotive component manufacturers (castings, forgings, stampings, machined parts, assemblies) supplying to OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers.
- Heat treatment, surface treatment, and coating service providers in the automotive supply chain.
- Manufacturers of production materials, tooling, and sub-assemblies for the automotive sector.
- Organisations receiving OEM mandates to achieve IATF 16949 certification as a condition of continued business.
- ISO 9001-certified automotive suppliers upgrading to meet the full IATF 16949 requirement.
How Fusion Helps
Gap Analysis: We assess your current QMS (often ISO 9001) against the IATF 16949 additional clauses and customer-specific requirements from your key OEM customers.
Core Tool Implementation: We implement all five core tools — APQP, PPAP (18 elements), FMEA (AIAG-VDA 2019 methodology), MSA, and SPC — through workshops, templates, and hands-on process reviews.
Customer-Specific Requirements: We review and integrate CSRs from your customer OEMs (Maruti, Hyundai, Tata, Ford, etc.) into your QMS procedures.
Process FMEA & Control Plans: We develop or review Process FMEAs and manufacturing Control Plans for your production processes.
Internal Audit: We conduct a IATF 16949 process-approach internal audit and a PPAP readiness review prior to the certification body Stage 1 and Stage 2 assessments.
